We are seeking individuals treated for head and neck cancer to participate in a research study about the impact of head and neck cancer on communication in everyday activities. This study is being conducted by investigators at the University of Washington, but you can participate from home, no matter where you live.
We are currently working on a project funded by the National Institutes of Health (National Cancer Institute) to develop a questionnaire that measures the impact of head and neck cancer on communication. We are also interested in the effect of treatment on communication and how it can change over time.
Here are the
criteria for participating:
· 18 years of age or older
· Ability to speak, read, and write English
· You have had a medical diagnosis and treatment for head and neck cancer (e.g., tongue, throat (pharynx), voicebox (larynx), palate or anywhere in the mouth/oral cavity etc.)
· Are at least 2 years post-treatment for your cancer
· Currently live at home
Our study involves answering questionnaires at 2 time points. The first time point
will be when you enroll in the study. The second time point will be about 12
months later. The questionnaires can be completed online, or we can mail paper
copies to you if you do not have easy access to a computer or the internet. The
questionnaires take about 30 minutes to complete. We will mail each participant
$20 for his or her time at each time point. Participation is voluntary, and in
no way affects any medical care you might be receiving.
If you are interested in participating or need additional information, please contact the UW Vocal Function Lab by phone at 206-616-0312 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
