Perry Zimmerman, Stupid Cancer Jr Board Member, shared their story at the 2025 Stupid Cancer NYC Storytelling Open Mic Event in NYC.

Perry Zimmerman, a 6-time cancer survivor, took the stage at open mic night in NYC to share her powerful story. Despite her experience with multiple diagnoses, Perry stayed positive throughout her treatments. It was not until after treatment ended and she was finally cancer-free that the real challenges set in – battling depression and adjusting to life after cancer. Perry has now found strength, support, ad belonging in the stupid cancer community, showing resilience, vulnerability, and the healing power of connection.

“Nobody advertises the mental health struggles that many AYA cancer survivors face. We’re essentially pumped full of poison, cut into, and expected to return to our normal pre-cancer selves…As the world shut down and everyone isolated, I also shut down and isolated, but I found Stupid Cancer. I attended Digital CancerCon and I started finding my people that truly get it.”
